Why the Pros Love It

Dispersibility of Barricade® vs competitor

DG Technology

Barricade is made with our patented DG Technology. Once it hits water, each granule breaks down into thousands of tiny particles that move down into the soil fast—right where they’re needed to stop weeds before they start.

Small Particle Size

Barricade’s ultra-fine granules mean better coverage across your lawn. More particles per square inch = more effective weed control with every pass.

When to Apply Barricade

Spring Applications

To keep summer annual weeds away, whether you have northern or southern turf, apply Barricade in early spring. Make sure to do this before the soil temperature hits 55 degrees Fahrenheit at a depth of four inches. This timing will stop weed seeds from germinating.

Fall Applications

You can also use Barricade in the fall to prevent winter annual weeds like poa annua. The ideal time to apply pre-emergent is before soil temperatures drop below 70°F consistently. This depends on your location but is typically between mid-September and early October.

Barricade and Seeding

Just like Barricade stops weeds from sprouting, it can also prevent grass seed from germinating.

If you've already seeded, hold off on applying Barricade for 60 days or until after the second mowing, whichever takes longer.

The waiting period before you can seed or overseed after using Barricade depends on your climate and how much Barricade you applied. Check out the table here for the recommended intervals.

Pro Tips for Best Results

Check The Forecast

Check The Forecast

Avoid applying before heavy rainfall so particles don't get washed away.

Mow First

Mow First

Clear any lawn debris and make it easier for particles to reach the soil.

Clean Up

Clean Up

Sweep or blow product off the driveways/sidewalks back into the lawn.

Water Deep

Water Deep

Your lawn will need at least 0.2 inches of water.

Spreader Settings

We recommend using a broadcast spreader. These spreader settings are a guide. Many variables such as walking speed, terrain, particle size, density, and spreader condition can affect these settings. Be sure to calibrate your spreader before every application.

Absolute necessity

"Been using this for years now. I used to have creeping charlie and clover everywhere. Nothing would stop it. This stuff works like magic. They cant make it any easier, just follow the directions on the bag, throw it down before a nice rain and watch it go to work. Nothing but lush green healthy grass. Worth every penny!"

Great pre-emergent at a fair price

"Easy to order, clear coverage options, and a solid price for a trusted pre-emergent. The site made it simple to choose the right bag size, and Barricade has worked well for weed prevention on my lawn."

A visible difference between treated

"A visible difference between treated and untreated areas. We had a really early spring so I applied mid-March @ 1. 8#s/1000 to get the early weeds and will come back in 30-45 days @ 1. 4#s/1000 for the late bloomers. The will giet me to the right time to Overseed in late Aug as our ground temps will drop below 50 mid Sept. Also applied PGF Complete at same time, same rate, but will likely wait a full two months before applying it again"

"Never got shipped. I wrote in to ask about the order and they advised it never shipped. It was a preemergent that I was waiting on. Y'all advised you were resending. Was hoping for a discount or overnight shipping and received neither. Love your products, just expected a little more. Thnx in advance"

Have used this product twice

"Have used this product twice a year for at least three years and was really disappointed not to get the coverage today that I've been accustomed to in the past. Used the same flow settings on the same spreader as in the past. Pertinent flow parts are plastic, snug so no corrosion has caused a higher flow rate. Walking speed about the same and distances between passes all quite similar. Will have to buy another local preemergent product to achieve full coverage."

The Best

"I recently laid new Zoysia sod this past fall. In January, I started getting weeds but it was too early to apply any preemergent. I researched and found Barricade and have since applied it twice (mid-March). No weeds and the lawn is coming along nicely! Great product. I used the entire bag and went ahead and bought another so I have it on hand for next season."

Q&A

How long after applying emergent before I can apply grass seed
This will depend on the rates you have applied. You must wait a minimum of 4 months before applying seed.
If you applied to early in spring, when can u reapply.
Barricade is best applied when soil temperatures are 55 degrees. If you applied too early, follow-up with a product like Crabgrass Preventer 6-8 weeks later.
Can I apply the barricade and then the crabgrass preventer with lawn food after or do I need to wait a certain period of time?
Both of these products are pre-emergent products, that both prevent the same types of annual weeds. Applying both is not necessary, however if you choose to apply both for extended coverage, we recommend applying crabgrass preventer 6-8 weeks after Barricade.
Can this be used on both lawn and beds for weed control? I live in Maumee can i buy this locally instead of shipping?
Hi there, yes, Barricade is safe for most established flowers/plants in flower beds. Please refer to the label for the complete list of ornamentals that Barricade is safe to use on. Unfortunately, this product is not available for local pick-up.
Can you use premergent with dogs
Hi there! Once Barricade has been watered-in and the lawn has then completely dried, dogs are safe to enter back out onto the lawn.
