Why the Pros Love It

Biochar comparing against competitor

Biochar, Upgraded

Unlike traditional biochar products that are dusty, messy, and often too chunky to break down properly, BioChar DG is engineered for a better experience and better results. Its clean, uniform granules are low-dust and easy to apply. Thanks to our patented DG Technology, the particles disperse quickly with water, moving past the thatch layer and directly into the soil where they can do their job. The result? More complete coverage, improved soil health, and a cleaner application every time.

When to Apply BioChar DG

BioChar DG can be applied to all soil and turf types in any growing stage. It can also be used in gardens and flower beds. BioChar DG can be applied on its own or applied alongside other granular applications. Some situations will require higher use rates and/or more frequent applications.

Your lawn will need at least 0.2 inches of water.

Spreader Settings

We recommend using a broadcast spreader. These spreader settings are a guide. Many variables such as walking speed, terrain, particle size, density, and spreader condition can affect these settings. Be sure to calibrate your spreader before every application.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're applying to the lawn, BioChar DG is ready to use. Once you water it in, the microparticles will work their way through the thatch and into the root zone. During this process, BioChar DG charges on its own. If you're tilling directly into the soil, it is ideal to provide organic material for the biochar to pull from. This could be compost, chicken feed, organic fertilizer, etc.

No, not in a significant way. Adding any type of carbon can slightly increase the pH, but a significant amount would have to be applied in order to do so.

HumiChar contains biochar. It is a mix of Humic DG and BioChar DG. BioChar DG only contains biochar and Humic DG only contains humic acid.

Biochar has a cumulative effect in the soil. Multiple applications are required for best results. How often to apply depends on your desired results. BioChar DG can be applied as often as monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly.

BioChar DG. . . . Is it worth the hype?

"As a new first time homeowner. I now have the opportunity to have a yard with, shall I say, a lawn that needs some dire help. After doing my research, I have determined that a rich, quality soil is the solid foundation needed to have a healthy and lush green lawn. So I shall be ordering this product and incorporating it into my lawn maintenance regiment. I will follow up with some results in the future. So stay tuned and send me great vibes and words of encouragement as I begin this journey."

All I Know is that it Worked

"Originally purchased BioChar DG last fall as a recommended soil amendment to help eliminate Poa Triv. After having lawn aerated and treating with Anderson's BioChar, drainage was significantly improved. Still too soon to tell how much impact I may have had on the Poa Triv, but I'm hopeful enough that I purchased this second bag to repeat the process next month. Thank you!"

Service is great. Biochar on

"Service is great. Biochar on the ground waiting on rain to see the results."

Not your typical use. . .

"I'll be using my BioChar DG this coming spring in large planters for flowers. The potting mix I'm using doesn't contain any BioChar and this will help out with root growth tremendously. The use is sparingly as to not cause other problems."

Q&A

What rate of Biochar should I use on very light sandy soil for cool season grass in a shady area. Grass is established but will over seed in the fall to thicken the stand.
We recommend using the low rate and reapplying every 3-4 weeks.
Is BioChar DG safe for a 25 foot Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) palm tree?If so what is the application directions, amount, and how far from the base of tree? Thanks, Warren
Yes, BioChar is safe for all plants and trees. You may apply about 2 cups of BioChar around the tree, from the base of the tree to a 5 ft. radius, every 2-3 weeks. Ensure to water it in after application.
Does Biochar DG affect soil pH?
No, not in a significant way. Adding any type of carbon can slightly increase the pH, but a significant amount would have to be applied in order to do so.
What is the difference between Biochar DG and Humichar? I live in upstate SC and have Zoysia grass and mostly clay soil. Would one be better to use than the other? Thanks!
BioChar DG‚Ñ¢ is an organic soil amendment made from the carbon skeleton of wood, or other organic matter through the process of super heating. It has millions of molecular bonding sites that hold water, nutrients, microbes, fungi and bacteria and make these more available for plants. BioChar DG‚Ñ¢ will last in the soil for decades, helping build the soil profile over time rather than yield in immediate results. This type of soil amendment can be help aid in germination making it especially beneficial to use during times of seeding. The addition of humic acid can benefit any soil type which makes it a great addition to other soil amendments yielding in improved results. Sandy soil types will benefit from humic acid as it increases the water holding capabilities and decreases evaporation. Clay soil types will benefit from loosened compact soil with the presence of humic acid. Humic DG‚Ñ¢ consists of 70% fulvic acid, humic acid and humin. Together, they feed beneficial soil microbes which increases nutrient and fertilizer efficiency and absorption. Humic DG‚Ñ¢ provides immediate and noticeable benefits to all soil types. The immediate improvement in soil quality reaped from the addition of humic acid makes Humic DG‚Ñ¢ a valuable addition to other types of soil amendments. Best results can be seen when applied in conjunction to a fertilizer application.HumiChar‚Ñ¢ is a combination of BioChar DG‚Ñ¢ and Humic DG‚Ñ¢.Humic DG‚Ñ¢ or HumiChar‚Ñ¢ would be best in your scenario.
Would I need to activate BioChar DG?
