How to Apply Governor G

Before Applying Governor G

  • Governor G should not be applied unless irrigation is installed and water is plentiful.
  • Apply only when your lawn is healthy and well fed, and has been cut recently.
  • Make sure you know the exact square footage of your lawn. Guessing could result in under- or over-application. For more help, click here.
  • Identify whether you have cool season or warm season grass. This will determine your application rates, which vary significantly between the two.
  • Whenever possible, weigh out the amount of product required.
  • Avoid any corrective chemical applications such as weed killers both before and after application. Any damage from these will be slow to grow out.

Applying Governor G

  • Applying in early morning when the grass is wet from dew can help with transferring the active ingredient to the plant. This is not required, just a best practice.
  • Avoid cutting for at least 48 hours to avoid particle pick-up or movement.
  • DO NOT WATER IN!
  • Apply every 4 weeks for continued control through the growing season. If heavy growth is seen sooner, apply earlier.
  • Stop all applications 60 days prior to cold weather or frost that will cause grass to go dormant.

Spreader Settings

We recommend using a broadcast spreader. These spreader settings are a guide. Many variables such as walking speed, terrain, particle size, density, and spreader condition can affect these settings. Be sure to calibrate your spreader before every application.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, Governor G is intended for lawn applications only.

Governor G should be applied to grass that has been cut recently. Governor G should slow the top growth of your lawn where you shouldn't have to mow as often.

Use restrictions: Do not mow 24 hours after applying to avoid removing product from the lawn. Do not mow 4 hours before applying to avoid potential turfgrass injury. Do not scalp the lawn and do not remove more than about 1/3 of the leaf height.

Wait at least 24-48 hours after application before watering Governor G in. Once watered-in and the lawn has then completely dried, pets are safe to enter back out onto the lawn.

Doesn’t control growth vertically.

"I applied it twice within a two week span on the low setting. Weather was not an issue. First application I added when there was a very strong dewpoint so the governor G would stick onto the grass. However, most of it fell off looking at it closer as the dew was slowly going awaySecond application, I added after I use my sprinkler system to water my grass. Same result. Both results I had to mow every two days, which is what I did before. I really wish Governor G was a lot better especially for being an Anderson’s product."

Give yourself a break from mowing

"I’ve been using this for two years now and I’m very pleased. The only thing that I’ve noticed is that it does not slow down Saint Augustine as much as Bermuda."

As easy as it gets

"I have to make choices when it comes to time management, and a granular PGR is one of the things I use to earn back some time playing with the kids. The convenience of a granular option is a tremendous and exceptionally effective time saver. In May and June, I went from cutting every 2-3 days to every 4-5 days. If saving time is a priority, this is the PGR for you."

Just buy it

"I’ve been using Andersons Governor G for a while now, and it has quickly become one of my go-to products for lawn care. The results speak for themselves – within days of application, my lawn looks greener, healthier, and noticeably more vibrant. I love that it helps manage moisture efficiently, especially during hot stretches when the grass would normally start to struggle. It spreads easily, doesn’t clump, and absorbs well into the turf. Overall, an excellent product from Andersons that keeps my lawn looking like a high-end golf course all season long. Highly recommend to anyone serious about having the best yard on the block."

Less mowing but not much else

"I noticed significant decrease in growth rate but that was it. Didn’t notice the lawn becoming thicker or a increase in drought resistant"

Johnathan A. (4/5)

Thicken your lawn

"I didn’t know about Governor G as we have recently moved t TN and in the process of getting our lawn back in shape. This product works great. Applied following directions and using Anderson rotary spreader. In 2 weeks, I have seen a remarkable difference in my lawn. More horizontal growth resulting in a nice thick carpet like lawn. I mow with a rotary mower and have irrigation. Very pleased with Anderson’s lawn products!"

Matt B. (5/5)

Great stuff

"This product has given me more time to do other things than mowing every time I turn around. It has made my yard thicker and more healthier looking. Other people around me started using it after they saw what it could do."

Scott G. (5/5)

Works great !!! But!

"Great product , a little expensive compared to liquid regulator. But easier to use. Needs more specific instructions on best ways and time to apply. And maybe a price more competitive with liquid version to make it economical for the residential home owner."

Michael C. (4/5)

First time user

"Really cool. Applied to front yard only. 8 days later mowed both front and backyard. Easily 2x the clippings in the back. The front was hard to see tire tracks the grass was so low. I will be applying to backyard next."

Gary M. (5/5)

Governor G

"So far I see exactly what it’s advertised to do, slowed growth and much thicker. Will save me some mowing time to do other things."
