Why the Pros Love It

Patented SmartPhos® Technology

Unlike traditional phosphorus products, SmartPhos is made with struvite and utilizes our patented technology. The result is a formula that offers low water solubility, allowing for a slow, steady supply of nutrients over an extended period of time without losing plant availability. This ensures the nutrients released over time are able to be used by the plant. SmartPhos will remain stable, eliminating the risk of nutrients being leached or tied-up in the soil.

Small Particle Size

SmartPhos DG 4-22-0 is made with an extremely small particle and includes The Andersons patented DG Technology. Upon contact with water, each granule disperses into thousands of microparticles that quickly move through the turf canopy into the root zone for superior coverage and enhanced efficacy.

Ideal for Seeding

SmartPhos has a low salt index so it won't burn new seedlings and can be used at half the rate of traditional starter fertilizers while delivering the same results. It can also be used in mature lawns with low phosphorus levels.

How to Apply SmartPhos

Apply at the LOW to HIGH rates during the growing season or for seeding
Use the LOW or MEDIUM rate during mid-summer
For bentgrass and poa annua, apply at the low rate if temperatures are 85˚F or above
For mature lawns with phosphorus deficiencies, apply once in the spring and once in the fall
Reapply every 4-6 weeks when establishing a new lawn
Apply ahead of nutrient blackout periods
For container planting, apply 4.6 to 7 lbs./1,000 sq. ft.
For topdressing, use 2.3 to 4.6 lbs./1,000 sq. ft.

Pro Tips for Best Results

Check The Forecast

Avoid applying before heavy rainfall so particles don't get washed away.

Mow First

Clear any lawn debris and make it easier for particles to reach the soil.

Clean Up

Sweep or blow product off the driveways/sidewalks back into the lawn.

Water Deep

Your lawn will need at least 0.2 inches of water.

Spreader Settings

We recommend using a broadcast spreader. These spreader settings are a guide. Many variables such as walking speed, terrain, particle size, density, and spreader condition can affect these settings. Be sure to calibrate your spreader before every application.

Helped green up the lawn

"Helped green up the lawn very well. I applied with PGF complete based not he results of my soil analysis. Like all products from Andersons, I am very pleased"

— John J. (5/5)

The Proof is in the soil test.

"This is my second application. Recent soil tests indicate my lawn has low phosphorus. I’m anxious to see the readings of my next soil test. I will say that the application rate for my Earth Way broadcast spreader appears to be incorrect. I had to back it off quite a way to cover my 5000 sq. Ft. Lawn."

— Tom S. (3/5)

Q&A

Can I apply SmartPhos to 2 week old Bermudagrass started from seed?: Hi there, Yes, SmartPhos can be applied to 2-week-old Bermudagrass that was started from seed if the grass has germinated and is actively growing. Phosphorus helps support root development, which is important during establishment. Be sure to follow the label rate and water in the application after spreading.
Can I apply PGF complete and Smartphos at the same time?: Yes, these fertilizers can be applied the same day. Apply one, then the other, then water it in. We recommend making sure your lawn needs all NPK nutrients with a soil test before applying. Always follow recommended application rates.
