Professional-Grade Soil Test

Soil test probe going into grass

Backed by Science

Soils often contain an abundance of nutrients that may or may not be in available forms to plants as they grow. Conventional soil analysis methods measure nutrient levels by drying and grinding your soil and extracting nutrients with different chemicals. This is still a "guess" with regards to what chemical extraction may best represent the available nutrient levels in your soil. The Andersons Soil Test Kit uses the customer's field-moist soil to adsorb available nutrients without using chemicals that can over or underestimate nutrient levels and soil release. This kit does not require your soil to be dried and ground, two processes that change the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural soil.

Fast Results

In just 6-8 days after mailing in your sample you'll get results for your soil's macronutrient, micronutrient, and pH levels. Your results will also include product recommendations tailored to your soil's needs. Register your kit, pull soil sample, mail sample, get results, grow like a pro. It's really that easy.

Pull Soil Sample

An accurate soil sample provides accurate analysis. For each test, we recommend:

 • Using a clean soil probe or hand trowel, collect soil from 5-7 separate locations/spots within your desired testing area.
 • Collect soil from the surface down to a depth of 6 inches (a shallower depth is okay if the soil is too hard).
 • Combine the collected soil thoroughly. Sample should be free of any large plant material and other debris.
 • Using the provided scoop, collect one level scoop of the mixed soil and add it to the jar. DO NOT DUMP WATER OUT OF JAR. Tightly secure lid!

Frequently Asked Questions

Spring and Fall are the best times to soil test! If you already applied fertilizer, wait at least 30 days to pull soil samples for your soil test to get accurate results.

Every soil test kit comes with one test and one prepaid mailing envelope.

It is important to collect a representative soil sample. If multiple sample areas are being tested, we recommend separate tests for each area. Before taking your soil sample, it’s best to evaluate your testing area and divide it into different sections if your lawn's conditions vary throughout.

For example, if your front yard is sunny and your back yard is mostly shaded and does not have great drainage, 2 soil tests may be required - one for the front and one for the back. That way, you get individual accurate readings for each area.

The soil test kits do not have an expire date.

You should mail your sample within one day of adding your soil to the jar in order to get accurate results.

Q&A

How long can the kit be stored before using?
We recommend using the soil test kit within a year of purchase.
After getting a soil test and recommended products and then putting them down, how long to wait before another soil test is warranted to study the results.
If you did a soil test this spring, you can do another soil test this fall or the following spring to see how your results have changed.
How long after applying your limestone can we do seeding?
NutraLime may be applied the same day as seeding.
When is the best time to test your soil
Spring and Fall are the best times to soil test!
Will this test provide how much lb/1000sqft of nutralime i need to put for pH raise ?
No, it will not. The amount of Lime you'd need to raise pH depends on your soil's current pH, quality of soil, weather, if you have irrigation, etc.. Please follow recommend application rates on NutraLime's label. It is also recommended to periodically take soil tests (spring/fall) to see how well you soil's pH is responding to the NutraLime. It can take several applications or even seasons to raise pH significantly.
